An Evening with the Artist, Katherine Cook

Artist Bio:
Katherine Cook is a classically trained oil painter whose work explores the quiet elegance of light, form and everyday subjects.  Born and raised in Tanzania near Mount Kilimanjaro, she developed an early appreciation for atmosphere and natural light that continues to influence her paintings today. She later studied in the classical tradition, earning her Master of Arts in Studio Painting from the Florence Academy of Art.  Katherine enjoys painting still life and portrait subjects, including both animas and people with an emphasis on careful observation, harmonious color and expressive brush work.  A long-standing member of the Portrait society of America , her work has been recognized as a finalist in the Atlanta Portrait Society portrait competition and in a plein air painting competition. She has won peoples’ choice awards at the Central Florida Museum of Art, and has exhibited in several gallery shows. She currently lives and paints on a farm, where her studio sits above the barn, and has recently opened an small atelier for aspiring young artists, and also offers workshops.

My Work Seeks to capture the quiet elegance of light and form, revealing the beauty of ordinary subjects through observation and painterly oil painting
