About the Artist

Emily Tremml

As a child, when people asked what I wanted to grow up to be, the answer was, “An artist!” Throughout life, I’ve been supported artistically by teachers and mentors including teachers at Saint Edwards School, taking art and photography classes while majoring in finance at Clemson University, while working on my MBA at Fordham University, taking workshops with two artists with the Art Students League during my corporate banking career, as a mother and every moment until now.

At the heart of my art is the joy of celebrating compelling subjects in nature and in the mind, and remembering that your creative self belongs only to you. There is no limit to what you create in your own mind and how those creations are translated on paper, fabric or canvas. A still life on a table top, the colors chosen for your palette or a room is where you create your own vision without being subject to the good opinion of others. Combining my love of plein air and studio painting, portraiture and drawing, I create works that evoke a response in myself and the viewer of power, peace, and a place that feels like home.

For me, art and creativity is defined as the joy of “making stuff.” The desire and passion to enjoy and create art is my life’s purpose and way of living and creating a community. I gain inspiration by being surrounded by friends, fellow artists and art makers, art enjoyers and mentors whether teachers, collectors or museums.
